WIND: Global Wind Dynamics is a collaboration between art and science. This moving image artwork combines 19th century whaling ship logbook records with contemporary satellite data. It is a joint project between Techpressionist* artist Karen LaFleur, exhibitor on the “150 Media Stream” video wall Chicago, IL and Gwangju Media Art Platform (G.map), South Korea … and oceanographer Caroline Ummenhofer, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, recipient of the Eureka Prize for Water Research and Innovation by the Australian Museum and the James B. Macelwane Medal by the American Geophysical Union. Together LaFleur and Ummenhofer envision our planet’s global wind systems in a moving image artwork that highlights the power of observation to foster a sense of wonder in nature.
